Haylee and Lex sat on opposite ends of the sofa not talking as they ate straight out of ice cream cartons. Neither one knew what to say. Especially not Lex. How do you comfort your best friend after she goes through a miscarriage? What do you say that's not trite and bland?
"When do you go back to work?" Lex finally broke the silence.
"Day after tomorrow. We're travelling to New York," Haylee responded quietly.
"Have you talked to your parents or Dillon yet?"
"A little. I don't want to talk about it, and that's all they want to talk about."
"What about Sam?"
"We Skyped when he was on the plane for a bit. How's Mike?"
"He's good. Asked about your head. Have you told anyone about?"
"No. No one at work even knew I was pregnant. I'll eventually tell them," she looked down at her empty carton.
"You know we're here for you," Lex leaned over and squeezed her arm.
