This is part one of a mini-series I had in mind. In this story the reader is a member of the avengers and she is gifted with the ability to communicate with animals. She also has heightened senses such as dog-like sense of hearing and smell and eagle-vision, the ability to jump high, run fast (not quicksilver fast but more like cheetah fast), and punch hard. Unique physical features include tiger-like eyes and elongated dog-like canines. This story is partly inspired by my love for animals and partly inspired by an episode from 90s British comedy The Vicar of Dibely. Enjoy

Possible warning: possible mentions of animal abuse

When you weren't busy being a member of the Avengers, you could be found volunteering at the local animal shelter. One of the reasons you were recruited to be on the team was your ability to talk to animals; an ability that often came in handy on missions where there were no lead or human witnesses to talk to. At the shelter, this ability came in handy rescuing strays, matching the right cat or dog to the right potential owner, or just to comfort any of the ones who'd been neglected, abused, and suffered the worst kind of hell imaginable.

One day there was an announcement for the volunteers that the shelter was having financial troubles and, if not soon resolved, would result in the shelter closing down for good. The news of this reached the animals in the shelter whose barks and whines turned into cries for help to you since they would end up on the streets or else. You considered them your friends, but you weren't sure what to do. Their pain soon became unbearable and you left the shelter in hopes of being able to think up a solution with a clear head. Luckily you had friends in high places; by high places that meant the Avengers Tower.

----------Later that same day--------

You joined the Avengers at the tower for the bi-weekly meeting to go over missions and other upcoming events. Five minutes into the meeting, Pietro rushes in. "Sorry I'm late," he pants. "How can you possibly be late, speedy?" asks Sam, "you're supposed to be the fastest one here." "That may be true but I was busy binge-watching Breaking Bad on Netflix," Pietro retorts. "Anyway as I was saying..." Steve goes on but you weren't really paying attention as you were a bit pre-occupied in trying to save the shelter.

"(y/n)? Hey, (y/n), you alright." Your head snaps up to see the other avengers staring at you.

"you okay, kid?" asks Steve, "you hadn't said a single word since this whole time."

"Well I might have other priorities on my mind at the moments." you then begin to explain your dilemma, "Those dogs and cats...they're my friends and they need my help. After what they been through how is it we can save the world but we can't save them? There barks and meows may be noise to you, but to me they're cries for help and I can't ignore them."

"Well lucky for you there just happens to be a solution," Tony says as he walks in."You're late as usual," you comment, "and what are talking about?"

"This perfectly brings us to our next order of business; hosting our first annual charity banquet.""A charity banquet?" you ask incredulously

"Think about  it," Tony continues. "We have people money to sit at tables and eat food and all for a worthy cause which in this case is saving a shelter in financial trouble." "Don't these type of events also include entertainment like a guest speaker or a stand-up comedian or something?" you ask."We both host the event and provide the entertainment in the form of a talent show."

"I'm up for it it's for a worthy cause," says Sam. "I agree," Thor chimes in.

"Alright, all in favor of hosting a charity banquet and raising money for the shelter?" asks Steve. The vote was unanimous.

"It's settled, we will discuss catering and entertainment for the next meeting."

"In that case I'll go tell my friends they have nothing to worry about" you say excitedly, as you get up to leave." "(y/n), wait!" Steve calls out, "the meetings not over yet!" "Oh, let her go," says Natasha, "this is clearly important to her."
