Since it's that most wonderful time of the year again, it's high time I do an extended Christmas special.  It's sorta like a modern version of A Christmas Carol. Also, the reader will kinda sorta be acting like the narrator for this much beloved Christmas classic. Enjoy. Also the Defenders will have cameos in this one-shot.

Italics: reader is narrating.

--------Scene: reader is sitting on a couch next to the fireplace and reading a book when she looks up from where she was reading--------

You: Oh, hello (you close the book), I didn't think you would show up. (You take a wooden pipe and blow bubbles out of it). Ah, it's Christmas once again. I love this time of the year; especially in New York. The snow is falling, Christmas music plays on the radio, lots of shopping and decorating lights and trees. It's really amazing after everything that goes on during the year, everyone can put all that aside to act brotherly towards on another.

It's especially the most important holiday to the Avengers (you stand up and pull out a picture of the team). Dysfunctional as this lot is, it's a miracle we take this one month of the year to get together to celebrate this wonderful holiday. But you know it wasn't always that way.

Vision: It wasn't? (In steps Vision dressed nicely).

You: Yes Vision, you where there when it happened, remember?

Vision: I must confess, that particular memory seems to have slipped my mind

You: well no worries. Lucky for you, that's exactly what we're here for (you pull out another book and sit back on the couch). *clears throat* it all started on a cold day in December.

------Scene Change to a mall in Manhattan------

It was Christmas Eve. The snow was falling, everybody ,it felt like, was rushing about doing some last minute Christmas shopping. The Avengers, myself included, had gone our separate ways for the day to do some charity work for Christmas. For example, outside the mall, Steve, Sam, Clint, Bucky, and Loki were ringing bells for people to donate their money to charity.

"Look mommy," a little girl points to the group as they rang the bells, "It's the Avengers!" Eagerly the girl pulls her mommy to the little bucket containing cash. She immediately runs to give Bucky a constricting hug. Bucky looks a little nervous, unsure of what to say or do. The mother laughs a little and places a couple dollars in the bucket.

"See, Buck, told ya there were people out there who love you," Steve smiles. "Yeah, that's because they've never met you in person," Sam smirks. "I'd normally slap you for that one, Wilson, but since it's Christmas, I'll let it slide," Bucky replies, "Consider it my Christmas gift." "How nice of you, Barnes," Sam smiles. "Yeah, yeah, just be sure to hide once December 26th rolls around," Bucky hastily adds.

"Alright, alright, take it easy you two," Steve intervenes, "We still have a job to do, remember?" The two decided to resume their bell ringing.

"I'm a little surprised you willingly signed up to do this, frosty," Clint speaks to Loki. "It's no burden," Loki assures, "The cold's never bothered me anyway." "Okay, besides quoting Frozen, you've never really struck me as the giving kind of guy," Clint frowns, "You've struck more like the Grinch to me." "Very funny," Loki laughs dryly, "Contrary to what you and your companions believe, I deeply appreciate this holiday. It's the one time of the year, people here never shoot me dirty looks for past transgressions. Also I do happen to find joy in giving rather then receiving."

"The only reason you're here is so you won't have to do that one gig Thor is currently doing," Sam roll his eyes. "I resent that comment, bird," Loki scowls, "I don't deny it, but I still highly resent it."
