For some reason, I didn't find out that C/N's family were family friends until I was sixteen, just before the whole Covid fiasco came around. The exact moment I found out was undesirably humiliating.

It's pretty normal to dance around in your room with headphones on, right? At least, it's normal for me to do, and as a result an incredibly regular occurrence. I don't understand how people can honestly say they "don't listen to music much": how?

Due to my music addiction, my mother spared the expenses for some wireless high tech noise cancelling headphones for Christmas. Needless to say, I use them extensively for what is probably the bigger part of the day. The negative side effects of the noise cancelling feature? Sometimes I don't hear my mother informing me of important news, like, off the top of my head, a visitor appearing in my doorway.

I was dancing, as I normally do, and suddenly saw a tall figure at my bedroom entrance, scaring the living shit out of me. It was a couple seconds before I had fallen back on to my ass out of shock, where I hurriedly pulled off my headphones. The last person I expected to see in my bedroom was C/N, my crush from school.

"What- what are you doing here?" I asked, scrambling to stand up.

"We're family friends?"

"What- doesn't being family friends entail knowing you're family friends?"

"Well, I knew."

"I didn't?"

He frowned, "Really? Your mum told me she told you we were coming."

"She did?!"

"I guess you were wearing those headphones."

"...Yeah..."

After that initial humiliating encounter of him seeing me land on my ass (which he never let me live down), our families became a lot closer, and finally the term family friends seemed accurate. So, when Covid struck, as it's just my mother and I at home, we ended up bubbling with C/N's family to provide a strong a support system. Which meant we could go to each other's houses and go out together freely.

Of course, that had led to my crush on C/N growing stronger.

It was a nice Friday afternoon, and I was on my last zoom call for the day: maths, one of the most boring subjects. C/N was in my maths class and also on the call, and I only focused whenever he took a turn to speak up. He had such a dreamy voice.

Before I knew it, I had daydreamed the entire lesson away, and the teacher had dismissed themself from the call. All of a sudden, C/N unmuted himself and said into his microphone, "Y/N, tell your mum I'm coming over."

Panic filled my body, as a couple other people unmuted themselves and said, "Guys? We're in a pandemic. Just caus you're dating doesn't mean you can see each other."

"It's okay, our houses are bubbled," C/N said, "We're family friends."

Variations of our classmates saying, "Oh, I see," ensued, until eventually everyone had left the call and I remained frozen at my desk processing what had just happened. C/N was coming over. I quickly shut down my laptop and did a mini tidy-up of my room to prepare for his arrival. He wouldn't take long, but all I could think about was the fact our classmates assumed we were dating. And that C/N didn't deny it. Well, neither did I, but I still felt humiliated.

I yelled down to my mother that he was coming over, a short couple minutes before the door opened. It was, of course, C/N, as we were close enough for him to let himself in without knocking. He came up to my room and grinned at me, but was taken aback when I lobbed a cushion at him.

"Hey! What was that for?"

"You idiot! Now everyone in our maths class thinks we're dating!"

"And that's bad?" he raised his eyebrows.

"I- well- yes- no- I don't know but it's still a lie!"

C/N chuckled, "Okay, but what if it isn't? We do hang out an abnormal amount for just friends."

"We're in the same bubble!"

"That doesn't make it an obligation to go to each other's houses every day."

I stared at him blankly, trying to piece together what he was hinting at. Was he suggesting that we should... date? My ears began to heat up at the thought.

"Come on, Y/N, say something!" he poked my cheek, "I'm trying to confess here and you're just staying quiet."

"You're... confessing?"

"Yeah, did I not make that clear?"

"I tend to doubt things that aren't explicit."

"Well, I'll tell you explicitly then. I. Want. To. Be. Your. Boyfriend."

My eyes widened a little, "You do?"

"Yeah, obviously. Haven't got too many lights on upstairs, have you?"

"Shut up... I just find it hard to believe."

"Well, believe it."

I stared at him for a few seconds, and got fed up of his unreasonably smug face, so darted forward and pressed my lips to his. His hand immediately cupped my cheek, while his free arm wrapped around my waist and pulled me against his chest. When we pulled away, the smug look I was trying to get rid of came back even stronger.

"Is that a cue I can call you my girlfriend?"

I smacked his chest, but sighed and nodded, "Yes, you can call me your girlfriend."

"Perfect."
