The strong smell of coffee beans wafted up her nostrils, gently awaking her from her light slumber. It was cosy underneath the vanilla-scented sheets, and the fluffy teddy in her grasp was comforting. She felt somewhat good, which was a first.

Through the bedroom door came her boyfriend, carrying two mugs that had steam drifting out of them. The coffee smell only got stronger, and she smiled softly at him before pushing herself up into a sitting position. "Thank you, darling," she smiled, accepting one of the cups. It was warm to the touch, and sent tingly sensations of heat through her palms and up her arms.

He sat down beside her as they sipped on their coffee in silence, cherishing the tranquility of the moment. Eventually, her boyfriend, C/N, put his mug down on his bedside table and turned to look at her. Sighing, she put her own mug down, as she could read the look on his face. Pulling up her sleeves, she presented her lower arms to him, wincing ever so slightly when he cupped her wrists with his hands. He glanced up at her, "Y/N, baby, you know I have to do this."

"I know..." she mumbled.

Tracing his fingers along the scars that were fading away increasingly day by day, he gave her a small smile, "They're almost completely healed. I'm so proud of you."

"I couldn't have done it without you."

C/N let go of her arms and picked up his mug again, while Y/N did the same.

"I think I want to go out today."

Shock flashed over his face as he looked at her with widened eyes, "You haven't left the apartment in months."

"I think I can today," she said, "I'm in a good mood... and I want to make the most of it."

"Well, then. Let's get dressed," C/N grinned.

Y/N felt well enough to take a shower, which she admittedly hadn't done in a while, and while she did so, her mind drifted to her loving boyfriend. He was amazing, really. While the doctors had written her off from work for not being able to function in society, he had done everything he could to make her comfortable. Done the laundry, make sure she cleaned at least once a week, done all the cooking, etc. She didn't know what she would have done without C/N.

When they were both dressed and pulling on their shoes, Y/N stared nervously at the front door that she hadn't exited through in what felt like forever. Fear began to course through her, until she felt a warm and comforting hand grip her own. She glanced upwards to see C/N looking down at her with a loving gaze, "One step at a time, love."

Taking a deep breath, she allowed him to softly pull her out into the corridor, at which she cautiously padded behind him to the lift. They were met with their neighbours on the journey to the ground floor, and they congratulated Y/N and told her how proud they were of her for leaving the flat. That was a much needed spirit boost, and by the time she felt the cool outside air hit her face she was calm once more. Despite having sat out on their balcony frequently, feeling the fresh air from the pavement below felt quite different. Refreshing, even.

"Where do you want to go?" C/N asked, admiring her curious face. She looked as if she was seeing the world for the first time.

"The park," she said without hesitation, wanting to feel grass beneath her feet.

So that's where they went, although she stuck to C/N's side because it was weird seeing so many people around. She had been so used to seeing only a select few. Some people gave her weird stares when she pulled off her shoes and began running around a little on the grass, pulling C/N with her. Y/N let out a little giggle, which was the first one he had heard since he found her stood on the edge of the roof of that building five months ago. The fear he had felt in that moment was indescribable, as he knew that if he had gotten there a moment later she would probably be dead.

He didn't want to think about that. She didn't die, and that's all that mattered.

"God, I forgot what grass felt like," she gushed, sitting beside him underneath a tree, "I didn't know how much I missed it until now."

C/N wrapped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her into him to kiss her temple, "You have no idea how glad I am to see you happy."

"I still feel bad that you had to take care of me-"

"Don't," he interrupted, "Sometimes we all need a little help... and it really pays to get to watch you gradually getting better."

"You mean the world to me, C/N. I love you so much."

"I love you, too, darling," he kissed her temple again, savouring her happiness.

It was at that moment, that Y/N knew she did in fact want to be alive, and that no matter how bad things would get, she would always have C/N to depend on. She hoped that one day she would be able to return the favour when he was sad, but knew that no matter how much she did, it would never be enough to make up for the hours he put in to make her feel better. He seemed to thrive off of her happiness, however, so the least she could do was be happy. Thankfully, doing so was getting easier and easier, especially with him around.

Whatever the future had in store for them, one thing was for sure: for now, Y/N was getting better, and C/N was overjoyed at that.
