———————————

A while ago I started talking to this boy on discord, and we became fast friends. We soon exchanged numbers and began talking on FaceTime every day, gaming with each other as well. Eventually, it reached the point when I decided I wanted to see him in person.

So, for the summer break of my last year of college, I booked a ticket to Austin, Texas. It was annoying, really, that he had to live all the way in the USA meanwhile I lived in the UK. And while I was incredibly excited to see him and spend the following month with him; I was also nervous, as along with our growing friendship had come some romantic feelings I couldn't kill for him. I couldn't help it, as he was illegally cute and also illegally funny - everything about him was unreasonably attractive.

And, so, as I stepped off the plane, I felt the anxiety in my bones as I began nervously shaking. To distract myself, I put all my energy into focusing on finding my suitcase in baggage claims, and getting past security hitch-free. Walking out into the main lobby was where it hit me that I was about to meet him.

I pulled out my phone to see he had texted me where he was in the lobby, so I looked up and around until I spotted him. My heartbeat increased rapidly as I began fast-walking over to him, and when I got there, I stilled. Looking up at him silently, unsure of what to say, I couldn't help but smile as well when his lips stretched into a grin.

"Hey," he said, shoving his hands in his pockets.

Still unable to say anything, I found myself wrapping my arms around his torso and burying my face in his chest.

"Woah, okay," he laughed, loosely returning the embrace, "Someone's happy to see me."

"I can't believe you're actually real," I finally spoke.

"Haha, well, yes, I am," he said, "How was the flight?"

"Long and boring."

C/N nodded, "I can imagine."

We got back to his apartment, which was quite small but still had a decent sized living space and bedroom. "We need to go grocery shopping," he said.

"You haven't already been?"

"No, fuckwit, because I don't know what you like."

"Oh, how caring of you, sir."

He rolled his eyes, "C'mon, sweetheart, let's get going."

My heart somersaulted when he called me sweetheart, even though he always did. It hit different when it was in person.

When we got to the supermarket, one of the first things that amazed me was the sheer size of the Oreo aisle- well, the fact there was an Oreo aisle at all was astonishing. A biscuit has an entire dedicated row of the supermarket? There were flavours I had never seen or heard from before, and C/N was leaning on the trolley watching me with raised eyebrows as I struggled to take it all in.

"Do you Americans really need this many types of Oreos?"

He laughed, "But of course. We just can't get enough. Breakfast, lunch, dinner - all Oreos."

I rolled my eyes at him, "Let's just get normal and golden Oreos." They were hard to locate, though.

Back at the apartment, C/N decided to order some pizza since we were both hungry and couldn't be bothered to cook. While he was ordering, I laid the coffee table with drinks, plates and condiments before switching on the television.

"What d'you wanna watch?" I asked, after he sat beside me.

"I don't care, you choose."

I ended up selecting my favourite movie, and it reached the thirty minute mark when the buzz sounded alerting us of the pizza's arrival. C/N went to get it and I couldn't help but relish in the mouth-watering smell of well done pepperoni pizza when he returned.

"Here it is, sweetheart."

I beamed at him, opening the box and taking a slice. It truly was as good as it smelt.

A little while later, when the pizza was all finished, I leant back on the sofa with a small huff of being full. It was then I became hyper aware of C/N's presence: no longer distracted by the delicious pizza since it was all gone. The fact his arm was resting on the back of the sofa behind me, and the fact his leg was only a few inches from my own. My heart rate rose tenfold.

"Fuck," I suddenly said.

"What?"

"Forgot to let my mum know I landed safe."

My phone was resting on the coffee table, on the side that C/N was closer to. I had set it there earlier when laying the table and hadn't paid it any mind since. Without even thinking about asking him to pass it to me, I leant over him and reached for it, resting my hand on his leg near his knee for support. I felt his breath hitch a little, and looked up at him after having retrieved my phone.

"I coulda passed it to you, sweetheart."

I shrugged sheepishly, "Didn't think about it."

"Don't think about a lotta things, do you?" he flicked my head, making me scowl at him. That was when the tension between us truly reached its peak: silence falling over us completely.

C/N was the one who leaned in first, and I followed suit until our lips met. He smiled into the kiss, making me do the same as we parted, but then he put his hand on the back of my head and pulled me in again. This time we kissed longer and slightly more seriously.

It would've lasted longer if I hadn't pulled away and gone, "My mum- I still need to text her."

"Way to kill the mood," he mumbled.

"Oh, shut up, we have a whole month."
