———————

My crush, C/N, is one of the most mysterious people I have ever met, which is probably why I like him so much; I often find myself drawn to mysterious people. C/N really takes the cake when it comes to be being just that, as he has so many unexplainable actions. For a start, I have never seen him eat. Not once. Sometimes he has an unlabelled juice box with him, always with a black straw, but that's it.

He also literally never sleeps. And, I know what you're thinking, 'that's normal for a teenager', but he never has eye bags. He always seems to be perfectly awake and never tired. I text him most nights at 2am and he responds instantly, and on the rare moments where I text even later due to insomnia, he still responds instantly.

I know, maybe he just only ever eats at home and drinks caffeine before he leaves to stay awake, but he also never goes out in the sun. Whenever it's a super hot and sunny day, he calls in sick, without exception. One time it was raining most the day but cleared up in the afternoon, and he disappeared after our class together only for me not to see him again until the next day when it was back to raining. Honestly, C/N seems kind of like a vampire, but I know they aren't real and I'm just being ridiculous. I can't help but wonder what the reason for his actions actually is, though.

That was what was playing through my mind as I walked down the pavement at night, coming home from my friend's house. I decided to take the back alley, which I knew was a dangerous move, but I was desperate to get home quickly. Of course, I shouldn't have taken the risk. It wasn't long before a creepy shadowy figure appeared out of nowhere in the corner of my eye and began following me. I gulped, picking up my pace, but soon found myself pinned against the wall by a tall man with piercing brown eyes and hair as black as the night sky. "You look like a tasty snack..." he murmured, tugging on my hair.

I was powerless to him pulling my hair to the side and exposing my neck, trying not to cry as I waited for him to begin sucking and potentially leaving unwanted hickeys. The man's mouth opened as he smiled evilly, revealing two pointed shiny fangs way longer than a human's should be. My confusion meant I didn't even realise he had leant in to bite my neck until I felt my skin being pierced. It hurt so fucking much, and warm tears began trickling down my cheeks. I was starting to feel drained as I felt my blood being sucked out of me.

That was when another shadowy figure appeared out of nowhere, pummelling into the man drinking my blood. His mouth left my neck and I sank to the floor, feeling quite faint at the blood loss I had just experienced. In the corner of my eye, I watched as the two figures began fighting, somehow quickly moving from place to place and pulling some amazing acrobatic stunts. They began to go fuzzy, as I felt my life force draining, and my eyelids drooping. Soon, I was completely blacked out.

I woke up in my bed, not immediately remembering the previous night or how I got there. When I did, however, I muttered something to the effect of, "Was probably just a dream," and got up. Unlike usual, I felt wide awake, my body not feeling even a hint of exhaustion. I was about to walk past my bedroom mirror without looking at it, but just in the corner of my peripheral I caught sight of a deep purple mark on my neck. With widened eyes, I turned to properly look at my reflection, examining the two round scabbed circles and the purple skin they were surrounded by. Touching them delicately, I expected to feel a stinging sensation. Instead, I felt nothing.

I furrowed my eyebrows, pressing harder and harder on the spot to try and create some pain. Still, there was nothing.

"Breakfast's ready, Y/N!" my mother called from downstairs. I didn't want her to suspect anything, so quickly got dressed in a turtleneck and a suitable outfit to go with it. Thank fuck sixth form doesn't require uniform.

When I got downstairs, I stared at the food on the table and felt a sickening twist in my stomach.

"Christ, I've never seen you so awake, Y/N," my mum commented, taking a seat at the dining table. I nodded, sitting down and staring at my meal with a lump in my throat. I don't know how to describe it... but it didn't look like food anymore. It almost distracted me from thinking about how, if last night was real, I got back into my bed. Key word being almost. Maybe I was really faint from blood loss so just have too fuzzy a memory to remember walking back?

"Go on, eat something," my dad said, who had been sitting at the table for a while.

Picking up my knife and fork, I gathered a mouthful and reluctantly put it into my mouth. Honestly, it tasted disgusting and just plain wrong. Like how grass tastes wrong to us but tastes right to cattle, food tasted wrong to me but tasted right to my parents. I chewed and chewed for as long as I could, but physically could not swallow. So, I spat it out into a tissue and said, "I can't swallow."

"Oh... are you feeling okay?" my mother asked.

"I feel fine... when I'm not looking at food..."

"Okay, well, we can't do this every day, but don't eat breakfast for now. Are you fine with going to school?"

I nodded.

"Well, call me if you feel too sick to carry on."

And with that, I prepared to leave for my classes thoroughly confused as to what was happening. It all seemed so... vampire-like. And it also seemed to match C/N's behaviour a whole lot. What is happening to me?
